What Is Step 6 Follow Up Testing?

Follow-up testing is the final step of the DOT Return-to-Duty process.
Drivers must complete all 6 steps for the violation to be eligible for removal from the Clearinghouse after 5 years.

How Quickly Can Follow Up Testing Be Completed?

The length of follow-up testing depends on what the SAP prescribes.
Drivers must complete at least 6 tests in the first year, and testing can continue for up to 5 years.

Can I Do Step 6 If I'm Not Employed?

No. A driver must be employed by a company or operating as an owner-operator to be eligible for Step 6.

Step 2 - Complete Required Forms

We’ll email you a form to gather information about your SAP, your violation, basic demographic details and employment status.

Step 3 - SAP Documentation Request

We will request the follow-up testing plan directly from your Substance Abuse Professional.

Step 4 - Assign DOTDOC As Your C/TPA

You will be provided with instructions on how to designate DOTDOC as your C/TPA in the FMCSA Clearinghouse.

Step 5 - Testing

We keep track of due dates, schedule testing at a nearby facility, and provide results to all authorized parties.

Step 6 - Closeout

Once the follow-up plan is complete, we update your Clearinghouse record with the completion date. The violation is then closed.
